By The Mill

landscape painting by Henry H. ParkerLovely landscape painting of an old mill along a river. The bucolic scene of the English countryside includes small flock of ducks, a horse and rider at the river’s edge and several groups of cattle in the far pastures.

Like so many of the landscapes painted by the English painter Henry H. Parker (1858-1930), this one includes a cloudy sky but the overall impression is one of a sunny day. The white ducks swimming on the water and sitting on the bank seem to balance the white fluffy clouds, drawing the eyes to study the entire painting rather than any one part of it.
