Lots of pretty peony flowers decorate this Japanese landscape painting. Peonies is the work of the famous Japanese artist Kaiho Yusho (1533-1615). Yusho is known for his brightly colored paintings and this one with its bright yellow background and multicolored peony flowers truly exemplifies that style. I suspect this flower painting is much prettier in person as I suspect the yellow shown here is not as harsh as it appears in real life.
This painted screen measures 177.7 by 360 and was painted on paper sometime between 1595 and 1600.
